“日本語 with あこ - Nihongo Picnic Podcast” - A Japanese Language Learning Podcast

“日本語 with あこ - Nihongo Picnic Podcast” - is a Japanese Language Podcast to assist you with learning Japanese. Ako, or Akiko Suzuki, has been a freelance Japanese language teacher since 2002.

Her bio on her website says that she has experience in the games and IT sectors teaching Japanese. She started a Japanese Language teaching website, which has some other Japanese language teachers, just last year.

Ako started the podcast in July of 2020, and currently has about 106 episodes. On average, she puts out about one podcast each week. Each podcast is around five to ten minutes in length. Ako discusses a different topic for each podcast. She also marks the podcasts to indicate what level of Japanese she uses: “Advanced Learners”, “N3 level”, “A little easier than other episodes. Most grammar that I use in the episodes are N4 level”, and then also if the podcast episode is an interview. Ako also has a patreon where you can get transcripts of each episode.

Ako speaks entirely in Japanese on her podcast. She speaks clearly and distinctly, and not too fast. It is easy to understand the words she is saying. So far, I have not heard any explanation of grammar, words, or phrases in her podcasts. She only discusses the topic of the episode. It is still a great podcast to listen to in order to practice listening skills in Japanese. Listening to Japanese will expose you to more words, learn how Japanese people talk and express themselves, and learn more of the Japanese culture.

She also has a YouTube channel where you can listen to her podcasts. She also posts other videos, labeled by “N” level, where she will teach grammar and then post another video a few days later with listening practice for that grammar point.
