“Learn Japanese from Real Talks” - A Japanese Language Learning Podcast

“Learn Japanese from Real Talks” is a Japanese language podcast which you can use to practice listening to Japanese. This is going to be an intermediate level podcast, as it is entirely in spoken Japanese.

A native Japanese speaker named Hiro started this podcast in April of 2020. He started off pretty strong, making 4 to 5 episodes each month, but started slowing down at the end of the year. He is only up to episode 49 as of May 2023, after resuming in January of 2022 since taking a long break from June 2021 to 2022.

Hiro is an online Japanese language tutor and a language learner himself. He is making this podcast in order to help you with your listening skills. Another goal of the podcast is to help you expand your Japanese vocabulary. Most of the podcast is in English, but sometimes he will explain things in English. Like when he explains some of the rules of the Japanese game shogi (将棋; しょうぎ) or the word game “shiritori” (しりとり). The Japanese is spoken at a natural speed, not to fast and not too slow, and is very easy to understand the words that are being spoken.

The podcasts average around 5 to 10 minutes in length, so you can listen to all of his episodes pretty quickly. He talks about a variety of topics, but seems to focus on language learning and Japanese culture. Sometimes he is talking all by himself, and other times he has a guest to talk with or interview. I really like it when there are two people talking together, it is a conversation instead of someone talking to you.

A very good podcast to listen to for Japanese listening practice. This podcast is it though, no website, YouTube, or patreon lurking about.
