“こんなときのにほんご” - A Japanese Language Learning Podcast

“こんなときのにほんご” is a Japanese language learning podcast to assist you with learning Japanese. “こんなときのにほんご” means something like “situational Japanese” or “this situation’s Japanese”.

This is an intermediate level podcast, where the host speaks only in Japanese. The podcast discusses Japanese word usage in different situations, how you should say something in Japanese, what does this Japanese word mean?, and also talks about the different cultural aspects of Japan.

Megumi Asano produces this podcast, and she started uploading episodes in April of 2020. She has 146 episodes as of May 2023, and releases about one episode each week. The podcast episodes are fairly short, only lasting about 5 minutes each. So these are short little lessons that you can listen to if you only have a few minutes. I rate this as an intermediate level podcast, as Megumi speaks entirely in Japanese. There are no English explanations of the topics that she is talking about. Megumi speaks at a normal pace, but is easy to understand.

Megumi also has a blog where she puts up transcripts of her “こんなときのにほんご” podcast episodes. They are written in Japanese, with no English translation. There are a few things on her blog, besides the podcast transcriptions. She has a YouTube channel, but it doesn’t have anything to do with teaching Japanese. It appears she may be a voice actor, or she does it as a hobby. She has a lot of videos on YouTube, but they are like manga cells, and she narrates them in different voices.
